Magnolias

Having lived in Charleston for almost 6 years, I am still relatively new to the Charleston food scene. My husband always had quite and aversion to going downtown which stemmed back to the days of his youth and to the stigmas from his Dad who also "never went downtown" and was also partly attributed to the fact that he works downtown. I, on the other hand, as a newcomer to Charleston love to go downtown. I like the shops and the people and the excitement of it all. I especially love the Charleston food scene and trying new restaurants as often as we can.

With that said, I had the pleasure of trying Magnolias for my birthday. I just adored it and my husband is a fan as well. As usual, we made early reservations so that we may enjoy a night out afterwards. We were promptly and politely greeted by the hostess who escorted us over to our window-side table in the center of the room. Our waiter bustled over and took our drink order and went over the menu answering questions in great detail showing a vast knowledge of the food he was serving. The staff were very, courteous, prompt and attentive making sure all our needs were covered.

For starters we ordered the house made potato chips with crumbled blue cheese and scallions. This was a very hearty portion and for two people we ended up not being able to finish the entire portion. For the main course, my husband ordered the Bourbon Glazed Pork Chop with roasted sweet potato hash, leeks, Brussels sprouts, mushrooms, and bacon-horseradish gravy while I had the Citrus Glazed Duck Breast with roasted butternut squash, country ham, and caramelized Brussels sprouts. Each dish was amazingly delicious and well deserving of the price points selected. Chef Don and Chef Kelly do a wonderful job with both the menu selections and the food and I highly recommend Magnolias.
