Smash Burger is a new restaurant in Summerville, SC which opened in early October 2013. I heard about it from a coworker who had nothing but rave reviews. So naturally when my husband and I were out doing some shopping with the kids, we decided to pop in and give it a try.

Even three months after the grand opening, this place was hopping on a mid Saturday afternoon. The line was long but the wait was not and before I knew it we were ordering our food. My husband and I each got the Regional Burger: The Carolina Chili Cheeseburger. It is a tender and juicy burger topped with Carolina Chili, Duke's mayo, coleslaw, diced onions, and American cheese on a pretzel bun (you can opt for a traditional bun as well if Pretzel rolls aren't your thing). The line of Regional Burgers change based on the market area and are based on the flavors of your region.  For me, the only way this burger could have been better is if it had some Lowcountry blue cheese cole slaw but it was delicious none-the-less.

My son had just a plain bacon cheese burger and he, too, also thoroughly enjoyed his burger. I know this from the yummy non-nom sounds he was making as he ate. My daughter had a kids hot dog basket and it was very reasonably priced at $5 for a hot dog, fries and a drink. The hot dog was cut and grilled on a big kaiser type hot dog bun. It was more than she could eat.

If I had a complaint, it would be that Smash Burger doesn't have a combo option and the burgers ($6 -$7), together with fries ($2) and a drink ($2) costs upwards of $10-$11. That being said, the baskets of fries, for us, are plenty big enough to share with another person and come with different flavor options namely olive oil with sea salt and rosemary.

All in all, I enjoyed Smash Burger, as did my family, and we will probably visit again soon so we can try out some more of their specialty burgers.
