Build Your Own Nacho Bar Topping Ideas

One of my favorite appetizers and snack foods is loaded nachos. There’s nothing like crispy tortilla chips piled high with All. The. Yummy. Toppings. Mmmmm!

As far as tortilla chips go, your favorite brand will always be the best brand to use for this recipe. However, due to all the toppings, you will need a durable chip capable of handling a little bit of heft. No thin tortilla chips here friends.

Building your own nacho bar allows guests to mix and match their favorite flavors making each bite even more delectable than the last. Guests love being able to customize the nachos to fit their favorite flavor profiles.

  • Tortilla chips
  • Black beans or pinto beans
  • Black olives
  • Pickled jalapenos
  • Fresh Jalapenos
  • Salsa or pico de Gallo
  • Sour cream or Mexican crema
  • Guacamole
  • Fresh cilantro
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Diced Onions
  • Hot Sauce

Recipe Variations

  • Vegetarian – Replace ground beef with plant-based meat products or omit it altogether. Stir the taco seasoning directly into the cheese and bean dip.
  • Vegan – Replace ground beef with plant-based meat products or omit it altogether. Use vegan sour cream and be sure to use vegetarian refried beans.
  • Gluten-free – Be sure to use gluten-free taco seasoning and serve with gluten-free corn chips.

FAQs

can you freeze nacho cheese dip?

Yes. The only precaution is that after defrosting, there might be some separation between the fats and cheese which can cause a slightly different texture and color. To remedy this slowly warm the cheese sauce in the microwave at half power and stir between each 30-second interval of time.

I’ll report back once I’ve had the opportunity to try it out. Thank you for the fantastic idea! ;)
