Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Ground Cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons Ground Ginger
  • 2 teaspoons Nutmeg [See Note 1]
  • 1-1/2 teaspoon Ground Allspice
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cloves [See Note 2] more or less to taste

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, stir together the cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, allspice, and cloves (optional) until combined.
  • Store in a small spice jar or container for up to 6 months. [See Note 3]

Notes

1). I use whole nutmeg seeds which I grate myself. It has such a beautiful flavor freshly grated. I buy the whole seeds in a bag ( 4-5 in a bag) usually on the International foods aisle of the grocery store. It's also sometimes kept whole where other spices are sold. If you cannot find the whole nutmeg, you can use ground nutmeg at a 1:1 ratio. Either will do great in this spice blend.2). Cloves are not in the traditional mix but I like the warm winter flavor ground cloves adds to the spice blend. If you do not care for cloves, leave them out. 3). My husband is known for saving spice jars for our various seasoning blends. Today I'm storing our mix in a 1/2 cup jelly (canning) jar with metal lid and band. You can use any glass or plastic jar you have on hand.
