The flavor of Garlic Oil is rich, mellow, and sweet, with a subtle nuttiness. It has a creamy texture and a deep, aromatic essence that enhances any dish it accompanies.
Fresh Herb SprigsI prefer rosemary, but Thyme, basil, or oregano also work well in this recipe.
Optional spicesLike 4-5 peppercorns or a few red pepper flakes.
Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
In a small oven-safe bowl, add the peeled garlic cloves in a single layer.
Pour enough oil over the garlic cloves to fully submerge them. The cloves should be completely covered with oil.
Add fresh herbs, like rosemary or thyme sprigs, for additional flavor if desired. You can also add spices or seasonings of your choice.
Place the oven-safe dish in the oven. Let the garlic and oil simmer together for about 45 minutes to 1 hour until the cloves become soft, tender, and fragrant.
Remove from the oven and let cool to room temperature in the oil.
Once cooled, strain and transfer the oil into a clean, airtight container. Store the container in the refrigerator for immediate use. The garlic oil can be stored for up to two weeks.
If you want to extend the shelf life of your garlic oil, store in a freezer-proof container (silicone ice cube trays work great!) in the freezer for up to 3 months.
