What are the Ingredients for Port Wine Cheese Spread?
- Port Wine – If Port wine is not available, a sweet red wine will work as well
- Cream cheese – I use full-fat but reduced-fat may be used.
- Sharp cheddar cheese – Low-fat cheese may also be used.
- Fresh chives – I use them from my garden but fresh parsley is a good substitute.
- Salt – I use fine Kosher salt but regular table salt may be substituted.
- Black pepper – freshly ground black pepper tastes best but ground black pepper may be used as well.
- Chopped pecans, walnuts or almonds – I used walnuts today but we really like this with almond slivers.
Where Do I Buy Port Wine?
Port Wine is a fortified Portuguese wine and is not typically sold in grocery stores. In my area, Port Wine is only available in full-service liquor stores. If Port Wine is not available in your area, chose a sweet red wine as a viable substitute.
